Iceland Thermal Springs Guest House

The architectural concept of “The Wave” is to create a building group that blends in with the landscape and the surrounding environment. By drawing inspiration from the abstraction of the landscape image of Iceland and the traditional Icelandic turf houses, a wavy ling looking building form was introduced to the site to maintain the continuity of the surrounding sloping landscape. Also, a wavy line can define the section of a building by providing openings and enclosure for spaces.

During the design process, a simple and efficient view control solution was introduced to maximize the attraction of the building to the tourists, which in the meantime limits site modification and minimizes the complexity of the overall design. The accommodation units are oriented toward the north with large skylights and openings to the west, this ensures the tenants to have a full view of the aurora borealis and the Lake Myvatn during their stay.
